Forty-nine sick turkeys (from 31 flocks), 2-6 wk old, were examined. They had enteritic and respiratory signs. Direct EM, inoculation of embryonated eggs by the yolk sac route and inoculation of young SPF [specific-pathogen-free] turkeys with materials from affected turkeys showed the presence of picorna-like virus. Two strains of virus were isolated. Examination of infected yolk sac cells by EM revealed lesions similar to those observed with picornavirus infection.
