The increase in effective stress and effective stress action time reduces the permeability of rock fractures. XG underground gas storage systems are constructed in carbonate formations. Fractures constitute the main seepage channel of pore-fracture carbonate formation. Alternating stress during multi-cycle injection-production of underground gas storage causes the fractures to open and close periodically. This leads to stress sensitivity of the formation and reduces the permeability of rock fractures. In this work, typical rock samples of carbonate formation in XG underground gas storage were selected as the research object, and stress sensitivity experiments, gas speed sensitivity experiments and stress sensitivity experiments considering effective stress action time were carried out. The rock sample permeability during the experiment was measured. The fracture walls of rock samples before and after the stress sensitivity experiments and stress sensitivity experiment considering the effective stress action time were analyzed by SEM. The influence mechanism of effective stress and effective stress action time on permeability of underground gas storage was explored. Stress sensitivity coefficient method was used to evaluate stress sensitivity. The results show that the stress sensitivity of fracture and matrix samples considering effective stress action time was enhanced compared with stress sensitivity experiments. With the increase in effective stress action time, the elastic-plastic deformation of rock increased the breaking of micro-convex bodies on the fracture wall. Moreover, micro-fractures were generated to reduce rock strength. The breaking of micro-convex bodies and the generation of micro-fractures strengthened the stress sensitivity of rocks. Moreover, fine migration caused by excessive injection-production pressure gradient also increased the stress sensitivity.
