The article presents two case studies of children diagnosed with congenital portosystemic venous shunt (CPSVS) in Japan. The use of catheter intervention with balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (B-RTO) for the treatment of CPSVS is highlighted. An overview of B-RTO is provided which have been used in adults with liver cirrhosis for occlusion of gastric, duodenal or intestinal varices.
