Because molecular dimensions are among the more important physical properties used to characterize molecules, a variety of methods has been devised for measuring them. These methods include diffraction studies (x-ray or electron), spectroscopic measurements, and the determination of certain kinetic properties of gases associated with their mean free paths. The first two ways mentioned yield values for internuclear separations, whereas the last gives information related to the “van der Waals” dimensions. The mean free paths of gaseous molecules are intimately involved in the so-called transport phenomena, which give rise to viscosity, thermal conductivity, and diffusion. In this paper there will be reported the results obtained by studying the mutual diffusion of pairs of the following gases: carbon dioxide, nitrous
