The article focuses on recurrent varicella-zoster virus (VZV) myelitis in an immunocompetent patient. VZV can cause a wide spectrum of disorders of which varicella and herpes zoster are the most common. Although the vast majority of cases are uncomplicated and self-limiting, neurological symptoms such as postherpetic neuralgia, segmental sensory loss or motor paresis, encephalitis, myelitis, multifocal leukoencephalopathy and cerebral vascular occlusion may develop. Myelitis is one of the rarer and least well characterized manifestations of a VZV infection. It is extremely unusual for VZV myelitis to recur after adequate antiviral therapy.
