This paper is the second in a series that describes the development of a 3-dimensional computer model of the heart. The problem studied here is that of acontractilefiber-wound toroidal tube immersed in a viscous incompressible fluid. A wave of contraction propagates around the tube, and this results in peristaltic pumping of the internal fluid in the direction of the wave. When the contraction is sufficiently strong, there is a small region of entrained fluid that is convected along at the speed of the wave.
