The assessed Ni-Re phase diagram shown in Fig. 1 has been based on the work of [70Sav] and [72Sav]. Early work on the Ni-Re system was done by [31Moe], who found that Ni and Re form alloys at high temperatures, and by [34Fin],[36You], and [51Net], who deposited Ni-Re alloys electrolytically from aqueous solutions.[54Pog] studied Ni-Re alloys using X-ray, thermal, and metallographic analyses and found no compounds in this system.[54Pog] found a peritectic reaction at 1600~ and 29.8 at.% Re, yielding the two solid solutions of (Ni) and (Re). They also found extensive solid solubility for Re in (Ni), which decreased rapidly with temperature from 29.8 at.% Re at 1600~ to about 8.4 at.% Re at 800~ the solubility of Ni in (Re) was taken to be about 58 at.% Ni. However,[54Pog] presented data for both the solidus and the liquidus of the (Ni) solid solutions showing a minimum in the solidus only, which is inconsistent with the phase rule.
