Uterine leiomyoma is observed frequently in the clinic. Its incidence is highest among benign Uterine tumors. The compartments of this tumor are known to consist of muscular fibers and connective tissue. The growth of uterine leiomyoma is closely associated with estrogen (John and Martin 1971; Wilson, Yang and Rees l980; Buttram and Reiter 1981). In addition, leiomyoma develops principally in the premenopausal period and its size decreases after menopause. Basic research related to steroid hormone receptors in the leiomyoma and myometrium of the uterus has been reported by many investigators, but the true origin of its development and growth remains unknown.
