Research on Pursuit and Formation of Cultural/National Identity Constructed in Figurative Art : From the Entire Region of Asia to the Whole World

As for the equipment, have purchased in bulk the following; "Books of Travels to Asia by Westerners," 5,663 books or 16,453 microfiches, and "Books of Missionary Travels to Asia by Westerners," 231 books or 1,585 microfiches. These travel books, which give perspectives on traditional Asia by both European secular and religious aspects, have been publicized as fundamental study materials.Painting Group: Prof. Ogawa conducted, during 2005 fiscal year, complete enumeration on more than 50 pieces of Chinese painting collection that Asian Civilization Museum of Singapore have recently acquired. Along with Professors and Curators Itakura, Tanaka, and Igarashi, Prof. Ogawa conducted study on Chinese and Japanese paintings in Australia and purchased digital files of Australian paintings. During fiscal 2006, gave study on Chinese paintings in East and Southeast Asian countries along with Prof. Itakura. Visiting totally 7 places has resulted in as many as more than 7 hundred pieces of works studied and photographed.Sculpture Group : Professors Asai and Pak have completed digitalizing and print out of 20,000 pieces of slide materials of Southeast Asian Buddhist sculpture collected by Tokyo National Museum. Among them about half, 10,000 pieces have been equipped with basic file cards which are necessary as a basis to be organized and filed. Their accomplishments also include fulfilling incomplete data and enhancing image materials of Tokyo National Museum. To do this they visited Indonesia 2005 fiscal year, around 70 study targets including Borobudur compound, Indonesian National Museum, etc. and gave research to 4 thousand pieces of sculpture works. After re-examining the data, they added 30,000 pieces of digital image materials. In Thailand, 2006 fiscal year, research and photographing targets were about 10 facilities, including Bangkok National Museum, and succeeded in accumulating 16,000 digital image materials of 2,500 pieces of sculpture works.
