Japan at the World's Fairs of Paris in 19th century : Forming the national identity and the cultural images

本研究以日本参加19世纪(1867、1878、1889、1900)巴黎世博会为研究对象。这些博览会促进了法日关系的发展，促进了法国“日本主义”的产生。然而，法国主办方、日本使团和参观者三者互动形成的“日本”形象却不尽相同。这一研究有助于阐明影响19世纪“日本”国家认同和文化形象的政治、经济、社会背景和外交关系。

This research studies on the participation of Japan in the World's Fairs of Paris in 19th century (1867, 1878, 1889, 1900). These Fairs contributed to the development of relations between France and Japan, and the creation of "Japonisme" in France. However, the image of "Japan", formed through the interaction of the French organizers, the Japanese mission and visitors, was not the same among them. This research contributed to elucidate the political, economical, social backgrounds and diplomatic relations, which affected the national identity and the cultural images of "Japan" in the 19th century.
