Historical Technography of Online Commenting (B03)

Using computer-aided web archive analysis and interviews with web professionals the project examines three popularisation dynamics in a history of online commenting: 1.) the automation of text production, quantitative rankings, and community management, 2.) the aestheticization of quantities, activities, and text-paratext-relations and 3.) the platformisation of commenting systems and their emerging ‘oligopolies of attention’.
