Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) presents an array of predictable physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms occurring cyclically during the late luteal phase and abating shortly after the onset of menses. Despite its near omnipresence in reproductive-age women, we do not yet understand the etiopathogenesis of PMS. This study looked at the extent to which and the manner in which the menstrual cyclicity of autonomic nervous system activity-a vital player in orchestrating biological homeostasis in the human body-is associated with PMS.
