Transnationalism and Identity in the peripheries of Japan : a comparative study of Japan-Taiwan and Japan-South Korea border regions

在八重山-台湾和津岛-韩国这两个边界地区，国界发生了变化，在经历了不受管制和禁止的人类跨越边界的历史之后，现在有一些运动寻求加强相互关系。从参加这些运动的人的角度进行了调查和分析。研究结果表明：1）对过去历史（包括殖民地时期）的重新解释，促进了民族跨越现在的边界地区的迁移，但这些重新解释的形式各不相同; 2）八重山和对马作为边缘地区，正在试图逃离民族意识，但实际上，这反而导致国家制度和国家关系的影响力增强。本研究揭示了在国际事务背景下，国家边界的渗透性和限制性双重性变化的历时形态。

In the two boundary regions of Yaeyama-Taiwan and Tsushima-Korea where national boarders have changed, and after passing through a history of both unregulated and banned human movement across these boarders, there are now movements seeking to strengthen mutual relationships. A survey and analysis was conducted from the standpoint of people taking part in these movements. What came to light in the results included the following : 1) The reinterpretation of past history, including the colonial period, has come to fuel peoples movement across the present national boarder area, however the form of these reinterpretations differ ; 2) As positioned on the periphery as boarder territories, in Yaeyama and Tsushima there is an attempt underway to escape from national consciousnesses, but in reality this has conversely led to a strengthened influence from national systems and from relationships between the nations. This research makes clear, within the context of international affairs, the diachronic shape of change of the dual aspects of national boarders, permeability and restrictiveness.
