Defensive capacity against viral infections and a risk of contracting tuberculosis in foreign university students.

本研究的目的是调查外国大学生对病毒感染的防御能力和感染结核病的风险。本研究方案经千叶大学研究审查委员会批准。所有参与研究的外国学生都获得了书面知情同意。参与调查的学生84人，男女各42人，平均年龄26.5岁。所有学生都接受了四种病毒感染的抗体效价测试，其中73人接受了QFTB测试。就国籍而言，其中一半是中国人，第二多的是印度尼西亚人和韩国人。各型病毒抗体阳性率分别为麻疹65.5%、风疹91.7%、水痘（水痘）78.6%、腮腺炎56.0%。QFTB结果显示，结核潜伏感染阳性17例（阳性率23.3%），不确定6例，阴性50例。综上所述，与日本学生相比，外国学生对某些病毒感染的防御能力略弱，感染结核病的风险更高。我们在日本大学健康协会（神户）第50届年会上报告了这些结果。

The aim of this study is to investigate a defensive capacity against viral infections and a risk of contracting tuberculosis in foreign university students. The protocol of this study was approved by research review board of Chiba University. Written informed consent was taken from all participated foreign students. The number of participants was 84 students consisting of 42 males and 42 females, and an average age was 26.5 years old. All the students underwent tests to evaluate antibody titers for four viral infections, and 73 of them underwent QFTB test. In terms of their nationalities half of them were Chinese and the second highest numbers were Indonesian and Korean. The rates of positivity for the various viral antibodies were as follows: measles 65.5%, rubella 91.7%, chickenpox (varicella) 78.6% and mumps 56.0%. The results of QFTB revealed that 17 subjects were positive (positive rate; 23.3%), 6 were indeterminate and 50 were negative for latent tuberculosis infection. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the defensive capacity against some viral infections of foreign students are slightly weak and the risk of contracting tuberculosis is higher in comparison with Japanese students. We reported these results in the 50th annual meeting of Japan University Health Association (Kobe).
