A study on development of literacy and literate culture in ancient regional society focusing on Saikaido region

本文从出土的“符”、“天秤”、“盘转”、“墨宝”三个方面，探讨了古代地域社会的文字发展和文字文化。除了未使用的“令牌”，一定数量的未使用的“ten-yoken”被发现时，仔细检查。“令牌”被认为是权力的象征，而未使用的“十轭”则被认为是被磨练成墨板而未使用的。在“token”和“ten-yoken”被挖掘的地方，“bokushodoki”并不多，但使用的字符种类很丰富。另一方面，在大量出土“bokushodoki”的遗址，使用的字符变化不大，很少发现“ten-yoken”，但“sumidame”或陶器调色板往往被挖掘出来。这表明这些网站之间使用字符的活动方面存在差异。

Aspects in the development of literacy and literate culture in the ancient regional society were studied in relation to excavated 'token' or pottery ink slab,'ten-yoken' or dish-diverted pottery ink slab and 'bokushodoki' or pottery with ink inscriptions. Besides unused 'token', a certain number of unused 'ten-yoken' were found when examined closely. 'Token' are thought to remain unused because they were the symbol of power; while unused 'ten-yoken' of practical use are regarded as the ones honed to be used as ink slabs but stay unused. At a site where 'token' and 'ten-yoken' were excavated, 'bokushodoki' were not found in abundance, but the variety of character used is rich. On the other hand, at a site where a large amount of 'bokushodoki' was excavated, character used dose not vary widely and little 'ten-yoken' were found, but 'sumidame' or pottery palette tended to be excavated instead. This suggests the aspect in activities using character differed between those sites.
