Empirical study of management change and growth of innovative SMEs in Japan

通过这项研究，建立了日本创新型中小企业(SME)的纵向数据集(2007、2010和2013)。通过分析，得出了以下结论。首先，研究发现，创新型中小企业在过去6年中既没有偏向极端不利的营商环境，也没有偏向稳定的营商环境。其次，人们认识到，与同行业的商业竞争对手相比，它们的业务业绩(利润、增长和创新指标)变得更低。第三，EO水平在2007年至2010年期间尤其下降。正如EO文献所指出的那样，EO是一种持续的战略行为，因此在一定条件下可能转变为一种保守的、反应性的战略姿态。在这种情况下，战略行为可能会改变为面向小企业(SBO)的典型组织姿态。

Through this research, a longitudinal data set (2007, 2010 and 2013) of Japanese innovative small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) was established. By analyzing it,the following findings were drawn. First, it was found that innovative SMEs have not leaned towards either the extreme hostile or the stable business environment in the past 6 years. Second, it is, however, recognized that their business performance (profit, growth and innovation indicators), in comparison with their business rivals in the same industry, became lower. Third, the level of EO turned down in particular from 2007 through 2010. As EO literature indicates, EO is a continuous strategic behavior and thus it may change to be a conservative and reactive strategic posture under a certain condition. In this case, the strategic behavior might change to a typical organizational posture of small business orientation (SBO).
