A study of the interface between form and meaning: with special reference to comparative constructions in Japanese and English

本研究旨在探讨日语和英语中的次比较级和（普通）小句比较级的句法-语义界面。结果发现，这些构式具有不同的结构，前一类构式的解释与事件测量有关。本研究还从句法结构和语义表征两个方面论证了这两类小句比较级的可接受性条件。

This research aims at exploring the syntax-semantics interface, investigating subcomparatives and (ordinary) clausal comparatives in Japanese and English. As a result, it has been found that these constructions have different structures, and that the interpretation of the former type of construction is related with event measurement. This study has also shown the acceptability condition of these two types of clausal comparatives, based on their syntactic structures and semantic representations.
