LEAP is the Legal Ecosystem for AI Proliferation. Innovation in AI and the potential impact it is having on current and emerging industries cannot be underestimated. The speed of this innovation means the impacts are barely understood.The LEAP project aims to de risk AI development and adoption through the use of a suite of standardised contracts, licenses, risk analysis and best practices.The specific innovation includes:* LEAP risk analysis: an adversarial understanding of the risks AI poses to both AI developers and AI users.* LEAP contract templates: document and develop a suite of contracts and licenses with the aim of minimising the identified risks.* LEAP certificates: develop a platform for generating and inspecting digital certificates that embody the contracts in a machine readable form, and which can be used in concert to determine the compatibility of such licenses across the value chain.* LEAP adoption process: develop a process which can recommend an ideal set of contracts/licenses for the business requirements and aspiration of the AI developer and user.* LEAP is a subscription platform, with modules available for both AI developers and end user applications impacted by AI.In a rapidly developing AI ecosystem, where we have not yet established for example, if ChatGPT or Midjourney are infringing the IP of the data owners on which they were trained (without consent), where we do not know who is liable for any mistake that and AI agent makes, it is clear that this is where focus is needed if we are to succeed.An AI system audit (like a financial audit) is backed by contract stating the scope limits of liability of the process. Any AI system evaluation for efficacy or bias, similarly is highly contextual to the application to which it is being put and similarly effective finally in the contract signed or license given. And the same applies for robustness testing.LEAP is a game changing intervention, which provides risk analysis and template licenses and contracts for both open and commercial ecosystems.We have assembled a portfolio of experts in both AI and legal frameworks, with a track record delivering change.LEAP will provide the AI assurance framework that can underpin the UK's AI innovation aspirations on sound foundations.
