GENSSIS (Gravitational Energy Storage & Sychronous Inertial Stability)

The “GENSSIS” project has to date completed two significant development phases, both received grant support approval from Innovate UK. Phase 1 commenced in Jan 2017 and ended in March 2018, total project costs for this phase were £188,473.0, while the grant approval was £133,132.0.Phase 2 commenced in July of 2018 and ended in March 2019, total project costs for this phase were £1,090,186, with grant approval of £720,271.The project is currently exploring commercial opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia in the context of the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG). Innovate UK have very recently invited the project to apply for a grant funded extension to phase 2. This was submitted on the 22nd November 2019 and approval has recently been confirmed by Innovate UK, this project extension is now live and will run from Jan to end of March 2020. The total project cost of this extension will be just under £50,000.0The GENSSIS project is at an advanced stage of design and development of its energy storage technology, preparations for the construction of a large-scale demonstrator are currently being finalised. Following construction, the demonstrator will undergo a full validation process in a working environment, over a period of 12 months, prior to full commercialisation.
