Fire Fighting: New Technology and Equipment

This proposal is intended to change the way fires are fought. Currently fire fighters, in themain, extinguish fires by applying large amounts of water. This has limitations in the amountavailable at all fire situations and by the amount of potentially polluting runoff watergenerated. Any new fire fighting technology must address the fact that Fire and Rescueservices worldwide have to cut costs by reducing numbers of personnel and equipment,reducing capital expenditure and yet maintaining safe working practices. The availability ofwater globally is also a factor driving change. Fire fighting methods have not changed muchsince Roman times. This concept will bring a new means to extinguish fires, at less cost andstill retain safe practice. It is anticipated that this technology will eventually be available in a modular formwhich can be adapted and modified to make it available across a much wider range of vehiclesthan current equipment.
