Our team is working on an exciting new material that could revolutionise how we repair damaged nerves and tendons. This material, made from a special kind of natural gel, is stronger and more flexible than what's currently available. It's designed to support the body's own healing process, making it a promising tool in regenerative medicine. Initially, we focused on making this gel stronger by using a natural substance found in plants. This approach has proven successful, creating a material that's not only safe for the body but also versatile in its use. It can be shaped in different ways, like wraps for injured nerves or tendons, or even as tiny tubes for repairing small gaps in nerves. Our collaboration with TYBR Health, a company specialising in medical devices, has been crucial. Together, we've been refining our material to meet the specific needs of tendon repair. We've even developed a version that's easy to store and ready to use, which is a big step forward. We've already tested this material in lab settings and in animal models, and the results are promising. It seems to work well without causing any unwanted reactions in the body. Now, we're looking to take this research to the next level. We want to make sure it's effective and safe for use in real-world medical situations. In this project we will test the material in two small animal models and we'll examine how our material compares to materials already used clinically. This project has the potential to make a big difference in how we treat injuries to nerves and tendons, offering new hope for faster and more effective healing.
