In the UK sofa-surfing is the largest form of homelessness, growing by 52 percent in five years, with men twenty percent more likely to experience it (Bramley, 2017; ComRes, 2017). Unlike hostel networks, Sofa-surfers use informal support networks, such as family and friends, to stay off the streets (Cloke, et al., 2003). These informal networks have rendered the sofa-surfer invisible to both scholars and agencies concerned with alleviating homelessness (May & Cloke, 2013; DeVerteuil, et al., 2009). Couched in the geographies of masculinity and the home, this project examines the lifestyles of this often-hidden population.
