Single organic molecules such as dibenzoterrylene (DBT) are excellent solid-state sources of singlephotons. Their emission wavelength coincides with electronic transitions in rubidium (780 - 795 nm)and emission linewidths at low temperature reach the lifetime limit (40 MHz). While the singlet state ofDBT has these good single photon emission properties, the molecule also has a longer-lived tripletstate, which could be useful for quantum state storage and manipulation. In this PhD project I willinvestigate the integrated tuning of DBT molecule emission using static electric fields (Stark effect)and strain applied using piezoelectric substrates. I will show that DBT emission can be tuned tointerface with rubidium atoms, and that photon-pair sources can be built to interfere with such DBTemission. I will perform spectroscopy of DBT molecules to find higher lying singlet transitions andtriplet transitions, and compare this to quantum chemistry calculations, before using this knowledge tostore photons from one DBT molecule in the triplet state of another.
