Re-wilding our imagination: Reframing non-human animals through visual art to disarm speciesism

Using the practice of drawing and printmaking as an investigative tool, this researchwill define a new position for 'scientific illustration' as one of anthropocentricfiction, counteraction, and myth, rather than exact technical veracity. Bysimultaneously exploiting and subverting the historical relationship between art andscience in order to 'describe' alternative interspecies relationships, this researchseeks to disrupt established species prejudices that impact negatively onbiodiversity. Art will be used to disarm speciesism and help increase empathy forendangered and extinct British animals contributing to the shift in perspective thatis necessary for the age of the Anthropocene.
