Seventeen Towers and Seven Gates: a poetry collection; and Digging in Gallowgate: a critical study

will explore the Morden Tower as a creative resource and assess the influence of its reading serieson the development of poetry in the North East. My research will deploy creative practice, literaryhistory, archival investigation, and interviews.My collection, Seventeen Towers and Seven Gates, will derive its structure from Newcastle's towers,walls, and gates, documenting encounters with figures, objects, and places around the Tower.My study, Digging in Gallowgate, will examine the Tower's contribution to an emergent regionalpoetics. I will analyse witness accounts, investigate archival resources, placing the Tower in itscultural, social, and geopolitical contexts.
