Linguistic Justice and Minority Languages in the Legal System: A Comparative Study of Irish in Northern Ireland and Welsh in Wales

A comparative study exploring the extent to which the Irish language can, and should, be accommodated in Northern Ireland's legal system by reflecting on the experience of the Welsh legal system, within which use of the Welsh language is facilitated. The research will also contextualise this issue as a case study of linguistic justice in practice, drawing upon normative research to critically assess the arguments for and against the use of Irish in Northern Ireland's legal system. In doing so, it aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the moral and practical complexities involved in using Irish within Northern Ireland's legal system, with a view to informing future policy or convention on the issue.
