From Genius to Scenius: Cultures of Collage in the Age of Digital Reproduction

This creative practice research explores how technology and society shape the sharing of ideasand notions of authorship and originality in a decentralised, networked community. Drawingon Brian Eno's concept of 'scenius', it examines the changing landscape as collectiveauthorship and collaboration become more prevalent in the digital age, investigating how thisrelates to older forms of cultural production grounded in copying and sharing.Using collage as an expression of co-authorship and symbiosis while utilising preexistingmaterials, I will make a series of audiovisual enquiries into these themes supplemented by apodcast examining how they impact the creation of art.
