Alphonso Lingis, the Phenomenology of Sensation and the Ethics of Interdisciplinarity

This project will offer an original interpretation of the philosopher Alphonso Lingis - one thatwill show how his interdisciplinary interrogations of sensation afford a resource for confrontingthe difficulty of ethically representing others by way of writing. This will be framed through theethical insights of Levinas and postcolonial debates surrounding the ethics of fieldwork. Thiswill reveal the ethicality of representation to demand a way of writing that is responsive to andresponsible for the way encounters are sensorially orientating and disorienting - an ethicalityLingis enacts through interrogating the way sensation moves and troubles the disciplinarymodes of representation.
