My approach to this PhD project is rooted in the intersection of social identity and positive psychology frameworks. I believe the former would beuseful to investigate questions of power and identity by exploring how choir members define their place in society and within choir environments. Moreover, aspects of music interaction, such as synchronisation and musical expression, might predict or even impact participants' sense ofbelonging. In order to address these topics, I plan to use a mix of qualitative methods such as focus groups, interviews, workshops andobservations, and quantitative methods such as surveys and video analysis. These methods could provide new insights around social and musicalaspects of choir models that affect participant's sense of belonging, identity and empowerment. The latter framework could be used to better explore how different models of choir organisation impact participant's wellbeing. More specifically, itwould be possible to explore models of choir organisation and their correlation with participant's perceived positive emotions, engagement, socialrelationships, sense of meaning and sense of achievement. Similarly to the former approach, I plan to use mixed-methods to explore wellbeingoutcomes. Moreover, I believe that taking a participatory approach is fundamental to achieve the goals of this PhD project. It will allow participantsto become an integral part of the research process, rather than merely objects of investigation. Also, this approach aligns with CWNN's newinclusive model of choir cho-production. For this reason, I am aware that these methods might be adapted according to the project's development. This PhD program aligns with my long-term career goals and ambitions as I am interested in pursuing a career in research. After being involved inprojects about the contributions of the arts to vulnerable communities, I am interested in focusing on the specific impacts of music interactions tothe same populations.I believe this PhD program is the perfect opportunity to achieve these goals while working with outstanding researchers andprofessionals, and contributing to cutting-edge research.
