What distinguishes the senses?

This project examines what distinguishes the senses and how we should decide this. I argue that the senses are individuated by the spatial structural features of the experiences associated with each one. First, I hypothesise that what distinguishes the senses is the distinct ways in which they make us aware of a space beyond what we perceive. Second, I claim this awareness is due to the way in which our sensory limitations are manifest in each sense's experiences. Finally, I argue that "non-theorical values" should play a key methodological role in the philosophy of perception when tackling these issues, an idea so far neglected in this field
