Dissent, Neoliberalised: The Performance of Protest in the United Kingdom in the 2020s

This project will research protest in the framework of theatre and performance studies, honing in on the specific meanings and implications of 'performer', 'audience', and 'script' in protest. By situating my project in the specific context of Britain in the 2020s and by exploring a range of struggles, tactics, and organisational forms, I seek to show how the British state's suppression of protest is inherently reliant on the neoliberal logic of market economy.
