英文摘要
Project Summary
This is an application for an administrative supplement under PA-21-071 (Research Supplements to
Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research), in order to support a graduate phase M.D./Ph.D. dual degree
trainee in Biomedical Engineering who originates from an Underrepresented Population in the U.S. Biomedical,
Clinical, Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Enterprise, as defined in NOT-OD-20-031 (Notice of NIH's
Interest in Diversity) category C under criteria 3, 4, and 5. The trainee will engage in the development of high-
throughput data processing and analysis methodologies underlying research activities defined by grant
R01MH120293, the goals of which are to elucidate mechanisms underlying working memory (WM) deficits in
schizophrenia (SCZ) by identifying constituent cognitive functions comprised by WM (i.e., WM subconstructs)
and neural correlates of their impairment in SCZ using Blood-Oxygen-Level-Dependent (BOLD) functional
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). This supplement will further support career engagement and educational
opportunities by supporting national and international conference travel, through which the trainee will present
their work and explore opportunities for integrated post-graduate research and clinical training in psychiatry,
with networking support from the PI. The activities proposed in this supplement application will produce a rich
multidisciplinary training experience in psychiatric neuroimaging and advance the objectives of the parent
grant, with potential to produce a better understanding of WM deficits in SCZ and potential methods their
treatment.
