This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. With new potential therapies on the horizon, there is an urgent need for nononvasive imaging to study muscle function. Gene and/or stem cell transfer, two therapeutic strategies that have tremendous potential, currently rely heavily on invasive techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The overall objective of this work is to develop high-resolution imaging methods to noninvasively evaluate cell based therapies in skeletal- and cardiac myopathies. This most immediate impact of resource technology this project has benefited from is the advancements in optical imaging to cell transplantation studies. This project utilizes a combination of MRI and MRS methods to image cell delivery and integration.
