Properties and applications of moten metal hydride systems

This research project seeks to open the field of molten hydrides to potential commercial applications by better understanding the fundamental nature of liquid solutions of ionic hydrides. The work will engage 1 PhD student and 2 MSc students, as well as 4 undergraduate students, to study the way in which ionic hydrides mix in solution and the effect that this has on their stability and their reactivity. The results planned will be the first published for systems with more than two components and will be the first to provide thermodynamic data for this type of system. This data can then be used to extrapolate melting points, vapour pressures, reactivities, etc. of these melts for other mixtures that are not studied.
