英文摘要
Bien que le procédé de mise en oeuvre par métallurgie des poudres (MP) en soit un « aux côtes presque finales », il n'en demeure pas moins que près de la moitié des pièces à base d'acier fabriquées de cette façon nécessitent une opération secondaire d'usinage. Malheureusement, le comportement en usinage de pièces fabriquées par métallurgie des poudres est généralement médiocre. Plusieurs travaux du demandeur effectués au cours des douze (12) dernières années ont porté sur l'optimisation de l'usinabilité via l'addition de sulfures de manganèse (MnS). Ces travaux ont mené au développement de nouvelles formulations de poudres à usinabilité améliorée de même qu'à l'optimisation de leurs paramètres de coupe. Toutefois, afin de demeurer compétitive face aux autres procédés de mise en oeuvre, la MP se doit d'offrir des propriétés mécaniques aussi élevées que celles des métaux corroyés. Le principal objectif du programme de recherche proposé vise à optimiser l'usinabilité de telles pièces dans une perspective de maximisation des propriétés mécaniques statiques et dynamiques. Nos travaux auront pour but de minimiser l'impact négatif des particules deuxième phase sur les propriétés mécaniques. Ceci se fera via un contrôle précis de la composition chimique et de la fraction volumique de particules améliorant l'usinabilité en utilisant une approche d'ingénierie des inclusions. Nous tenterons, à l'aide d'un traitement d'affinage de l'acier grâce à des laitiers synthétiques, de développer la formation d'inclusions de type spessarite (3MnO-Al2O3-2SiO2) et anorthite (CaO-Al2O3-2SiO2). Ces inclusions sont connues pour leur propension à la formation de phases amorphes lors de l'élaboration d'aciers corroyés par coulée continue. Ainsi, si nous arrivons à former de telles inclusions amorphes dans les poudres de fer et d'acier, nous croyons pouvoir diminuer de façon significative la fraction volumique de particules de deuxième phase nécessaire à l'obtention d'une usinabilité améliorée. Ce faisant, nous pourrons mettre sur pied des poudres à usinabilité améliorée présentant des propriétés mécaniques nettement supérieures à celles des poudres présentement disponibles.
