Dissection of aggression in drosophila

Aggression is an important behavior evolutionarily conserved in animals, and is essential to the survival and evolution of animals. However, the molecular and cellular mechanism underlying the control of aggression remains largely undefined. In this application, we propose to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of territorial aggression. We will use Drosophila because aggression exists in the lab strains as well as wild-caught strains. The proven power of genetics in mechanistic dissection of neurobiology in Drosophila makes it an attractive model for addressing important biological questions.
