Biomass polysaccharides are the most abundant polymers on earth. Enzymes that hydrolyze polysaccharides, such as cellulases and xylanases, are of increasing industrial importance due to their ability to efficiently degrade cellulose or xylan into smaller carbohydrate subunits that can be used as feedstocks for a large number of applications in industry. Because of this, these enzymes are of high commercial value to Buckman Canada, a leading company in the commercialization of cellulase and xylanase enzymes for various industries, most notably pulp and paper.
