Electricity storage (ES) has emerged as a central issue in addressing the demands of integrating intermittent renewable electricity generation and identifying cost-effective solutions for aging and over-capacity electrical grid lines. Electricity storage mediates between variable energy source and variable load. It offers a tremendous cost advantage by storing excess electricity generated during low demand and price periods and delivering during peak demand. The choice of electricity storage technology is largely influenced by the services being supported, such as uninterrupted power supply (UPS), Transmission and Demand (T&D) management systems in the grid.
