The proposed research program focusses on engineering innovations to design novel protection and early stabilisation devices for reducing the risk and the severity of vertebral and spinal cord injuries. The results of this research will provide innovative tools and methods directly changing how novel concepts of protection and stabilisation devices will be developed and tested to reduce the risk and severity of vertebral and spinal cord injuries. In vivo animal models as well as numerical simulation models of traumatic vertebral and spinal cord injuries will be developed and validated in this chair. These tools will be used to support innovation activities for the development of new protection and early stabilisation devices for vertebral and spinal cord injuries. The expected results will be to reduce the risk and the severity of injuries resulting from accidents and to prevent exacerbating these injuries during acute patient care.
