Dr. Metchev has established himself as one of the top researchers in his field both nationally and internationally. He is leveraging Western's world-class standing in the space sciences to push the envelope of astrophysics: toward detecting the smallest bodies in the outer Solar System and toward sensing the signatures of extrasolar life. Dr. Metchev has attracted and trained top research talent, and has assembled one of the largest single-investigator-led astronomy teams led in Canada. Through his leadership and advisory roles, his work is guiding research priorities at the University, national, and international level.
