Quantifying consequences of recreational angling on lake trout and developing best practices to promote survival

The goal of this project is to determine the effects of recreational angling activities on lake trout populations. This will be done by addressing two objectives: a stock assessment of various lakes, and a study to determine physiological and behavioural responses to catch and release angling. The project will also create 'best practices that will be shared widely on several social media platforms. Academic applicants (University of Winnipeg, Carleton University, and the University of Manitoba) have partnered with the Manitoba Department of Agriculture and Resource Development - Fisheries Branch, Travel Manitoba, and a local angling group to undertake this comprehensive project.
