The Fields Institute (FI), established in 1992, is an internationally renowned centre for mathematical collaboration, research, learning and innovation. Our programs help to train and develop highly qualified personnel (HQP), advance groundbreaking research, increase knowledge dissemination and transfer, enhance national and international collaboration, and create new partnership development opportunities, in the mathematical sciences in both fundamental and applied streams, in Canada and across the world. FI also promotes collaborations between university-based researchers and scientists in industry, and nurtures entrepreneurial enterprises that are based on mathematical and statistical ideas and innovation, and which touch many aspects of society. Since 1999, FIs research has generated several successful start-ups that have commercialized mathematical technologies, highlighting FIs potential for generating and commercializing Canadian IP to help drive economic growth and job creation. Among FI's principal activities are Thematic Programs, which highlight a broad variety of mathematical topics of global importance, both applied and purely theoretical. International experts visit FI in the course of these programs, actively exchanging ideas on the most current trends in their field, and mentoring young participants. FI is committed to providing an atmosphere that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas in an inclusive and diverse environment. To further maximize our impact, FI is embarking on three initiatives in the next five years - Fields MAGIC (Mathematics And its Global Impact Center), Fields Academy and Fields MULTIPLIER. These new initiatives embody FIs concerted efforts to effectively channel our world-class mathematical innovation to address key societal and economic issues. MAGIC encompasses our ambitious, long-term projects carrying out cutting-edge mathematics-based research to address existing and future global challenges in ways that have the potential for life-changing impact in our world. A first example is seen in the Mathematics for Public Health (MfPH) initiative, funded by the Emerging Infectious Disease Modelling (EIDM) program of NSERC. Other thematic areas are proposed under MAGIC: diabetes and data-driven predictive health analytics, climate change and the risk of extreme events, smart villages and the end of poverty, the language of the brain, mathematics of 5G, and the mathematics of quantum algorithms. ACADEMY: Three new programs: 1) Shared graduate courses between Fields Principal Sponsoring Universities, in advanced topics in mathematics; 2) Upskilling courses designed to identify HQP with strong quantitative skills, and train them to be job-ready for specific industries e.g. our Cybersecurity Program; 3) Courses aligned with the research projects under MAGIC. MULTIPLIER: FI will continue building capacity for industry-academic collaboration and commercialization, with enhanced emphasis on bolstering the scale-up potential of mathematics-based Canadian IP and startups in Canada. MULTIPLIER is a four-way partnership between academics, industry, government and venture capital to channel de-risked and validated mathematical innovations to the marketplace. It is a successor to Fields-Centre for Quantitative Analysis and Modelling (CQAM).Mathematics remains profoundly important in our modern societies, and FI is poised to continue its role in shaping the future of mathematics in Canada, through our core and emerging initiatives. Support from NSERC forms part of the core base of FI's budget, allowing for long term planning of activities and providing leverage for resources from other governmental, academic and private sources. Through support from NSERC, we will continue to advance research, train and develop HQP, enhance national and international collaboration, foster new partnership development opportunities, and increase knowledge dissemination and transfer, in the mathematical sciences in Canada and internationally, whilst ensuring that th
