China is the largest pork-producing country in the world, and piglet production is the key phase in the swine industry. Pig is the animal most sensitive to deoxynivalenol, and deoxynivalenol contamination in feed seriously threatens the growth and health of piglets, which leads to huge economic losses in the swine industry. In recent years, the research of selenium in alleviating the toxicity of mycotoxins in livestock has become a hot spot. However, little is known about the effects of selenomethionine in alleviating the intestinal damage caused by deoxynivalenol and the optimal dietary amount of selenomethionine against the toxicity, as well as the underlying action mechanism. Therefore, this project intends to systematically explore the molecular mechanism of selenomethionine in alleviating the intestinal damage induced by deoxynivalenol at the animal (piglet), explant tissue (jejunal explant), cell (IPEC-J2 cells), and molecule (MAPK signaling molecules) levels. This project aimed to (1) clarify the role of selenomethionine in alleviating the intestinal injury caused by deoxynivalenol in piglets, and determine the optimal dietary selenomethionine amount against the deoxynivalenol toxicity; (2) clarify the molecular mechanism of selenomethionine in alleviating the intestinal injury of piglets caused by deoxynivalenol. The project will provide a theoretical basis and practical reference for alleviating the toxic effects of deoxynivalenol on piglets in the swine industry.
