Tuber FH Wigg (Tuberaceae) is a quintessential truffle genus comprising species of socio-economic importance and esteemed culinary attributes. It is widespread in Europe, Asia and North America (Mello et al. 2006; Jeandroz et al. 2008; Trappe et al. 2009; Garcıa-Montero et al. 2010; Bonito et al. 2013), with a few species also occurring in North Africa (Ceruti et al. 2003). Tuber spp. establish obligate mycorrhizal symbiotic relationships with diverse plant hosts including pines, oaks, poplars, orchids, and commercially important trees such as hazelnut, chestnut and pecan (Geng et al. 2009; Trappe et al. 2009; Wan et al. 2015). Not only do Tuber spp. provide mineral nutrition and water for the host trees, but they also contribute to the diet of small forest-dwelling mammals. These mycophageous animals are considered to be major consumers and vectors of hypogeous ectomycorrhizal fungi (Schickmann et al. 2012). In recent years, more than 20 new Tuber species have been reported from China. The results of recently published studies reveal that China harbors much abundance and high diversity of Tuber. With regard to the phylogenetic relationships of Tuber, the Latisporum group was proposed by Fan et al.(2016) and is believed to be closely related to the Puberulum group. The Latisporum group includes the species known only from eastern Asia and represents a new lineage that arose in parallel with the Puberulum, Maculatum and Gibbosum lineages. Recent molecular phylogenetic and taxonomic studies from Asia have shown that the Latisporum group is composed of Chinese species, including
