Problem/Condition: Suicidal thoughts and behaviors are important public health concerns in the United States. In 2019, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death among persons aged ≥18 years (adults); in that year, 45,861 adults died as a result of suicide, and an estimated 381,295 adults visited hospital emergency departments for nonfatal, selfin icted injuries. Regionaland state-level data on self-in icted injuries are needed to help localities establish priorities and evaluate the e ectiveness of suicide prevention strategies.
