Assessed thrombin-induced intracellular Ca mobilization (TICM) in 53 depressed Ss (14 with bipolar disorder, 23 with major depression with melancholia, and 16 with major depression without melancholia), 5 Ss with obsessive-compulsive disorder, 4 schizophrenics, and 25 healthy controls. Ss completed the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. Results show that the TICM response in bipolar depression was higher than in major depression with or without melancholia and higher than that in controls. No significant difference was found in basal Ca 2+ concentration between patient groups and controls. No relationship was found between TICM response and severity of symptoms.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)
