英英⽂⽂要要旨旨 Annual probability-scale inundation maps produced by riverine inundation models are used widely as flood hazard maps in many countries and regions for evacuation planning and real estate risk management, even though producing individual flood hazard maps for each water system is costly and time-consuming. For this study, a global riverine inundation model, CaMa-Flood, was used to generate inundation maps on a 1,000-year probability scale for Japan. Also, qualitative performance evaluation was conducted by comparing inundation areas with official river flood hazard maps. The CaMa-Flood model simulated river flooding in Japan using a 35-year reanalysis of total flow data. Extreme value analysis calculated water levels on a 1,000-year probability scale with one arcmin resolution. It was downscaled into one arcsec resolution, and then flood hazard maps. The obtained flood inundation maps were compared with official flood plain maps, which confirmed that backwater inundation and inundation areas in diversion channels were adequately represented, in general. However, several inundations in the floodplain across the unit catchment area were not partially represented. The exposed population included in the CaMa hazard map was 29% smaller than that in the official hazard map. Results of this study confirmed that the estimated inundation area with the annual probability scale generated by the sophisticated global riverine inundation model has a certain degree of accuracy. Results also demonstrated the possibility of using the estimates for local flood risk assessment.
