The family Phanerochaetaceae (Polyporales, Basidiomycota) circumscribed by Jülich (1982) contains about 20 genera (Binder et al. 2005; Floudas and Hibbett 2015). Species in the family have resupinate to effused-reflexed or pileate basidiomata, smooth, tuberculate, phlebioid, hydnoid or poroid hymenophores, a monomitic to dimitic hyphal structure with clamp connections or simple septa on generative hyphae, and hyaline smooth basidiospores without reactions in Melzer's reagent (Larsson 2007; Ryvarden and Melo 2014).Molecular studies involving the Phanerochaetaceae have been intensively carried out by different mycologists (Larsson et al. 2004; Larsson 2007; Hallenberg et al. 2008; Wu et al. 2010; Miettinen and Rajchenberg 2012; Miettinen et al. 2012, 2016; Binder et al. 2013; Jia et al. 2013; Floudas and Hibbett 2015). Larsson (2007), focused mainly on the corticioid taxa, showed that the Phanerochaetaceae was sister to “Byssomerulius family” in the phylogenetic tree. Later, these two families were also neatly separated in the multi-generic analyses of more taxa in the Polyporales (Binder et al. 2013).
