Thermally driven bipedal walkers have been studied using cylindrical feet with bimetal sheets. They are classified as quasi-passive dynamic walkers and can walk on hot horizontal surfaces without electric motors. In the previous walkers, the stride was limited due to the shape of the feet. This work discusses a use of round feet, similar to a part of rugby ball in shape. A prototype walker was designed using a set of the round feet and walking experiment was carried out on a hot horizontal plate heated at around 120C. The experimental results show that, given an appropriate initial condition, the round feet can realize large-stride walking. The limitations of the prototype walker and future directions are discussed.
