With prevalence estimates of mental health problems in childhood ranging as high as 20%(Hoagwood & Olin, 2002), identifying effective ways to treat mental health and substance use problems is a federal public health policy priority (USPHS, 2000). Evidence supporting the efficacy of psychological treatments for youth exists; several promising interventions have emerged, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (Kazdin & Weisz, 2003). Despite this growing knowledge, efficacious interventions are not being systematically used within community service settings (eg, Weiss et al., 2000), and only recently have efforts been made to disseminate evidence-based treatments (EBTs) in such settings (eg, Chorpita et al., 2002).
